Whether highlighting a new era, resurfacing older content, refreshing aesthetics, or showcasing key projects or work, "Grid Reordering" aims to make it easier to shape a users profile around what feels most relevant to them right now, says the platform.

For South African creators and small businesses, where Instagram can often play the role of a digital storefront, portfolio and discovery tool, this kind of control over profile presentation aims to make a real difference in how audiences engage with content, adds the platform.

How the Feature Works

Instagram says that using the feature is simple — users just need to long-press on a post from their Instagram profile, tap "Reorder grid" and drag posts into any order they'd like. Pinned posts and reels will remain fixed at the top of the grid.

According to the platform, Grid Reordering has multiple uses for creators and users:

  • Curate a Profile for Brand Opportunities: Showcase the content that best represents their niche, creative identity, or current goals, whether they're hoping to attract brand partnerships, highlight their portfolio, or make a stronger first impression.
  • Refresh Their Aesthetic (Without Archiving): Reorganise existing content to match their current creative vision, color palette, or vibe — no archiving or reposting required.
  • Connect Serialised Content and Storytelling: Group together content series, multi-part stories, tutorials, transformations, or "Part One, Part Two and Part Three" posts so audiences can more easily follow their narrative.
  • Bring Hidden Gems Back Into the Spotlight: Give older posts a second life by surfacing content that new followers may have missed, giving them new context or meaning.

The update aims to be useful for creators who want to keep their profiles aligned with evolving personal brands, without losing access to older content that still holds value, says the platform.

Instagram concludes that this aims to reflect a broader shift across social platforms, where users are getting more control over how they present and curate their digital identity.
